Montana Cowboy Applies Business Experience To Career in Country Music

(ContentDesk) April 2, 2006 -- Singing on stage to thousands of screaming fans is a common daydream to people all over the world. To some, it is a quintessential American Dream.
The mind-numbing popularity of American Idol is a testament to our love affair with the music industry.
Literally thousands of wannabe singers show up at tryouts for the show, with the vast majority going home disappointed.
Record labels receive hundreds of unsolicited submissions every week from artists who are desperate to have their music heard by the masses.

Many wonder if its even possible to succeed these days without major label support.
Can you find success on your own as a musical artist?Since the day he first heard Elvis Presley, Mitchell John wanted to be an entertainer.
After years of dreaming about it, John, at the age of 33, decided to take matters into his own hands.
Through years of hard work and perseverance, John has finally realized his dream and become an accomplished country artist.
However, his path to success initially took him into other directions.John first found success as a small businessman.

He took a small business selling sports hats and turned it into a profitable franchise.
After selling his stake in that business, he got involved with plastics.
When he decided to try his hand at country music, he applied many of the lessons learned from business to the world of music. After many years working as a successful businessman, I knew that if I were ever going to take a serious shot at the music business, this is the time, says John.
I was 33 and could no longer deny a lifelong desire to record and tour as a singer and entertainer.Instead of going the traditional route through Nashville, John, a self-proclaimed Montana cowboy through and through, decided to thumb his nose at the establishment and do it all on his own as an independent artist, without the aid of a major record or distribution company.
When you are an independent, its a bigger challenge and a better adventure when youre the one who makes the decision and then has to make it work, says John.

If youve been smart, worked hard, and gotten lucky, profits are all yours, too.
As an independent artist, John has performed hundreds of shows, published an autobiography, and released six albums, including his latest live set Live at the Alberta Bair Theater.
He has sold almost 100,000 records to date and is one of the most successful independent country artists working today.John credits faith, hard-work, and perseverance as keys to his success.
His inspiring success story in the music business proves that small businesses---and that includes independent musicians---can indeed make it work.
The American Dream is alive and well for private entrepreneurs who are willing to learn the hard lessons of the business of making money, and willing to work and sacrifice long and hard to be successful in business, says John.
Commemorating ten years as an independent performing songwriter and businessman, John wrote Funded by Faith: An American Dream (Ta Tanka Publishing, 2006).

Johns book is a compelling memoir of an individual who used his experience and proven success in small business and applied it to his desire to be a successful country artist.
Regardless of whether you want to sell CDs or ice cream cones, his book offers readers a how-to-make-it-on-your-own guide to success.I just want others to understand that it is within their power to take a dream from inside their hearts and begin making it their lifes work, says John.
Ive been fortunate enough to realize my dream and I hope that my story can help others do the same. For a review copy of the book or to set up an interview with Mitchell John for a story, please contact Sarah Van Blaricum at 727-443-7115, ext. 207.

Bad SEOs? What about Bad SEO Clients?

You hear all the time about bad SEOs. Bad SEOs are offering worthless services, failing to deliver on their internet marketing promises, polluting the search engine results??"well, a lot of bad things.
But how much ever gets said about bad SEOs' spiritual counterparts: bad SEO clients?

As an SEO, I can see things from the other side of the table.
You see, despite trying hard to make it clear I'm a good, ethical, results-oriented, smarter marketing, white-hat SEO, I have gotten no end of inquiries from bad prospective SEO clients.
Sure, no one who gets cheated is ever entirely to blame, and some cheated businesses are entirely blameless.

But the bad SEOs would have too small a market to stay in business if it weren't for almost-as-bad clients.

Shades of Bad SEO Clients

First, let me make clear what I mean by “bad” SEOs. Bad SEOs are bad because they either do unethical things to get e-marketing results, or...

Dealing With Stress in Our Overworked Lives

As small business owners, we often take on more than we can handle. Wearing all the hats running our businesses, as well as the other commitments we have (i.e. volunteer work, family, etc.), can sometimes leave us feeling overworked, frustrated, and stressed out. Being under so much stress is not good for anyone and it can definitely have an effect on our businesses. So we need to alleviate some of our stress and find solutions for the reasons that we are so overworked.

  1. Take a step back from everything and decide which tasks are ?needs' and which tasks are ?wants'.

Which tasks are more important than others? We consider everything that we do in our lives, especially when running our businesses, as important. However, which tasks can you postpone long enough without producing a negative effect on ourselves and our success. Which tasks can wait?

  2. Learn that you cannot say ?yes' to everything. For most people and for most businesses, saying no to anyone can be like pulling...

Hilarious Lines From Online Dating Profiles

If you have put any effort at all into online dating, I'm sure that you've read plenty about how to write online profiles, and how NOT to write them.
Knowing the basics about that is a good thing, of course, and I've written my fair share on the subject.

The truth is that there is a wealth of information our there and help is readily available when it comes to creating terrific, effective online profiles.
Yet, you can somehow always count on finding plenty of particularly entertaining material like what follows when browsing profile narratives.

All of these are lifted from actual profiles.
Enjoy!

"I'm a walking, talking dichotomy. I hope you're the same."
After all, opposites attract, right?

"I need a man who can full feel my fantasies."
I distinctly remember an email I wrote to this one entitled, "Feeling Full".

I don't remember a response.
Haha.

"The three things...

That's the Christmas Spirit

Last Christmas, Uncle Albert promised his neighbor, Wilson, to find a way to keep the Christmas spirit alive all year. You know, just like Wilson and everybody else wishes people each year.Yesterday I was checking my calendar. "Holy smokes! It's almost Christmas. I better check to see if Uncle Albert found a way to keep the Christmas spirit alive all year."So I put on my boots and buttoned up my jacket. I dashed out the door.

I came back into the house to put on a scarf. And some...
